Pulp extends Pinheiro interest in the interaction of photography and paint through two series in which the appearance of the photographic image is diminished and then disappears. The Island series are 20 x 20” prints of paint on small pinhole images taken with a wide-angle camera. The landscape in the photograph is reduced to a little more than a gesture hidden amongst the paint. In the Paper series the 58 x 48” prints are made from scans of paint on un-fixed photo paper. No photographic image was made on the paper; the scan of the painted paper marks a phase of the shifts in the colour of the paper as it is exposed to light.
